DIALOG DESIGN — Listen to your
callers.
Customer satisfaction and completion
rate are the dual drivers for speech.
Customer satisfaction and completion rate
are the dual drivers for speech. A well designed dialog is so easy and
natural that the caller prefers it to other forms of service. But,
paradoxically, the simpler a VUI sounds, the more work probably went
into it. If you have just one caller, a natural conversation is easy.
But you don't have one caller, you have thousands, and each is an
individual who thinks and talks in their own way. And the interface
must not only handle they way they speak, but also anticipate mistakes,
and guide the call back on track. In order to design a natural
interface, you must distill thousands of observations about your
callers, their mental models of what they are doing, their language,
and your operators' language.
Voice Architects’ designs dialogs
irrespective of speech engine or telephony platform. The final
deliverable in the engagement, a dialog specification, is a
comprehensive document that implementers can use to code the
application on their platform of choice.
